Do It Yourself Car Window Tint Removal

Car window tints have many benefits like keeping the inside of your car cool on sunny days, keeping your interior private from prying eyes and can improve the aesthetics of your car. But depending on what state you live in, having window tints can be illegal and will most likely result in a ticket by an officer of the law.

If you are unfortunate enough to receive a ticket for illegal window tinting, you will be forced to correct the violation by taking it off. There are two options available: have a professional remove it off for you at a cost or do it yourself. If you plan to remove the window tint yourself, I have discovered one of the easiest and cleanest methods around. You will need a rag, a handheld steamer (most are inexpensive), and some patience.

Start off by steaming one of the corners of the window enough so you can start picking at it with your fingernail. Once it starts chipping away, slowly peel back the tint while at the same time constantly steaming it. Be careful while doing this because the steam will be very hot and will burn your hands if you get too close. The steam will melt the glue on the tint and will cause it to come off with the film instead of leaving the residue on your windshield glass.

Use the rag to wipe up the excess water that will form on the glass. It is important to do this slowly and it will take approximately 30-45 minutes per window depending on the size. If done too quickly, then the steamer will not sufficiently melt the glue which will result in some of it being left on your glass. In that case you will need a sharp razor or solvent to remove the tint residue.

Once all of the tint is removed, spray the glass down with some cleaner and give it a nice wipe down. It’s that easy! And not only do you get a sense of accomplishment but you also save yourself a lot of money by not having a professional do it, who will most likely use the same steaming method. However if you do not have the time to do this you can seek out competent professional assistance.
